Gonzalo Pico was born in Santa Elena, Colombia on the 18th of January, 1934, to Eloy and Ana Pico. He served in the Colombian military and attended school at the Instituto Colombo Venezolano in Medellin, Colombia where he found the love of his life, Esperanza Alba. After graduating with a masters in theology, Gonzalo and Esperanza married on December 19, 1963 and were happily together for 54 years.
His mission as a minister started in Bogota in 1964. Shortly after, they had their first child, a baby boy. They were able to enjoy his life on this earth for a very short time before he passed away after a few weeks. In 1965, they moved back to Medellin to work as a Professor and Dean of Men at El Instituto Colombo Venezolano, a Seventh Day Adventist University. It was here where they were blessed with the birth of their two daughters Ana Isabel and Ruth Esther.
In 1972, they moved to Venezuela to serve as a pastor in Barcelona, Caracas and subsequently settling in Nirgua, at El Instituto Vocacional de Venezuela (INSTIVOC). There, they welcomed their son David Ernesto. During his tenure at INSTIVOC , he positively influenced many lives and helped shape and guide many young people, who to this day are his friends and consider him a mentor.
In 1981, Gonzalo and Esperanza made the journey to Texas. It was difficult to leave a great university, along with family and friends, but they had the courage to embark on a new adventure full of promise. Gonzalo led many churches and guided hundreds to Jesus thru his ministry. The family lived in Keene for 11 years before finally settling in Houston, a city they love because of its people. He officially retired in 2003 after 40 years of service and ministry with the Seventh Day Adventist Church, but continued his involvement with the church leading many conferences and participating in the church’s ministry.
Gonzalo was a man of faith, integrity, and strength, he was also known for his jovial and positive outlook on life and his permanent smile. No matter what age group, he was the center of attention; you could always hear the laughter and happiness surrounding those around him. He was extremely generous, had a big heart, and was always the first to offer help and lend support. He was accepting of all, making everyone feel like they were his best friend and part of the family.
He loved to travel and instilled that love in his children. Family vacations were always the best of times. These are the memories the family will cherish as we move forward without him. He lived in three countries, visited ten, and traveled to most states in the U.S. He was an avid reader and writer, and an engaging and captivating speaker. He loved soccer, music, gardening and the outdoors. He leaves a legacy of love.

Gonzalo Pico nació en Santa Elena, Colombia, el 18 de Enero de 1934, Sus padres fueron Eloy y Ana Pico. Sirvió en el Ejército Colombiano y asistió al colegio en el Instituto Colombo Venezolano en Medellín, Colombia donde encontró el amor de su vida, Esperanza Alba. Después de graduarse con su maestria en Teología, Gonzalo y Esperanza se casaron el 19 de diciembre de 1963 y estuvieron felizmente juntos por 54 años.
Su misión como Ministro comenzó en Bogotá en 1964. Poco después, tuvieron su primer hijo. Pudieron disfrutar de su vida en esta tierra por un tiempo muy corto antes de que él falleciera después de unas semanas. En 1965, regresaron a Medellín para trabajar como Profesor y Decano de Varones en el Instituto Colombo venezolano, una Universidad Adventista del Séptimo Día. Fue aquí donde fueron bendecidos con el nacimiento de sus dos hijas Ana Isabel y Ruth Esther.
En 1972, se trasladaron a Venezuela para servir como pastor en Barcelona, Caracas y posteriormente instalarse en Nirgua, en el Instituto VOCACIONAL DE VENEZUELA. En este lugar influyó positivamente en muchas vidas y ayudó a formar y guiar a muchos jóvenes, que hasta el día de hoy son sus amigos y lo consideran un mentor.

Fue difícil dejar una gran universidad, junto con familiares y amigos, pero tuvieron el valor de embarcarse en una nueva aventura llena de promesas. Gonzalo dirigió muchas iglesias y guió a cientos a los pies de Jesús a través de su ministerio. La familia vivió en Keene durante 11 años antes de establecerse finalmente en Houston, una ciudad que aman por su gente. Era extremadamente generoso, tenía un gran corazón y siempre fue el primero en ofrecer ayuda y prestar apoyo. Aceptaba a todos por igual, haciendo que sintieran que era su mejor amigo y parte de la familia.
Le encantaba viajar e infundir ese amor en sus hijos. Las vacaciones familiares siempre fueron un magnifico tiempo para cada uno de nosotros. Estos son los recuerdos que la familia evocará a medida que avanzamos sin él. Vivió en tres países, visitó diez y viajó a la mayoría de los estados en los Estados Unidos. Fue un ávido lector y escritor, y un orador cautivador. Le encantaba el futbol, la música, la jardinería y el aire libre. Él deja un legado de amor.
