He graduated from Lamar High School in 1951 and enrolled in the University of Houston, studying Electronics Technology. In September of 1953, Gordon enlisted in the US Army; he served as an engineer for the radio stations that transmitted information and entertained the troops and was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon returning to Houston, Gordon began his 35-year career with Shell Oil Company, retiring on October 31, 1991.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia King, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. King.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette King; his brother, Chester King; his sons Douglas (Cheryl) and Dwight (Stephanie); and his grandchildren Kathryn, Spencer, and Sarah as well as many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service will be Wednesday, December 4th, and a memorial service will be held at South Main Baptist Church in early January.
