Grace Chantos Westbrook passed away peacefully February 18, 2021 in New Braunfels, Texas. She is formerly of Houston, Texas, and since 2012, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Grace Catherine was born May 14, 1930 in McGee, MS, in a rail car at the Cohay Logging Camp to Aubrey Carey Currie, Sr. and Esma Kennedy Currie. Her first bed was limited as dresser drawer, but her life proved unlimited.
During Grace’s life, she demonstrated strong conviction for her family and loved ones. Grace married Andrew Jennings Chantos June 2nd, 1951. During their 51 year marriage, they lived in Mississippi, Kansas, North Carolina, and New Jersey. In 1979, they started a business, Sarco of Texas a manufacturing representative firm, located in Houston and South Central Texas for 23 years. Her talents included a flair for the arts, painting, and textiles. An accomplished private pilot, her and her husband explored the U.S. and other destinations. On her last flight in a Bonanza to New Braunfels, she declared she could “stay in the sky forever.” She was a long time member of the women’s aviation organization, The Ninety Nines, The Cattlewoman’s Association, American Society of Plumbing Engineers, and the PHCC.
Grace is survived by her current husband of 11 years, James R. Westbrook of Vicksburg, MS; Daughter of Hendersonville, NC, Linda Chantos Faucette and her husband Steven W. Callegari; Grandson Eric Andrew Faucette and his wife Saskia Von Mourik of Portland, Oregon; and granddaughter Katherine Foy Wallace and her husband Neal J. Wallace of Lockhart, TX; Son of New Braunfels, TX, Andrew Currie Chantos and daughter in law Judy Chantos; Grandsons Isaac Andrew Chantos, and Micah Alfred Jennings Chantos also of New Braunfels; Her brother Aubrey Carey Currie, Jr., and sister in law Janet Currie of Wesson, MS.; Nephews Andrew C. Currie, and Bruce A. Currie (Becky), Arthur Dale Currie, Jr. (Lynn), and niece Carol C. Byrd (David). Fraternal nephew Jimmy Wyatt, and Niece Sandy Wyatt. She also has many great, great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Andrew J. Chantos of Jackson, MI; brother Arthur Dale Currie of Jackson, MS; and son in law Henry Frank Faucette III of Raleigh, NC.
Services will be March 5, 2021 at 10 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran, 15235 Spring Cypress, TX and live streamed through their website: stjohn.tv, Interment will be at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 1 p.m.
