Gregory graduated from Grand Prairie High School and went on to attend the University of Houston, earning bachelor’s degrees in psychology and electrical engineering. He built his career as a software engineer, bringing a steady mind and disciplined focus to his work—qualities that also shaped the way he approached the world beyond it.
A man of strong interests and engaged intellect, Gregory was especially drawn to martial arts, music, and history and politics. He was best known for his love of debate and for sharing what he knew, whether in conversation, in spirited discussion, or in the simple enjoyment of discovering new restaurants. His curiosity and conviction were evident in the way he listened, questioned, and contributed—always with the intention of engaging ideas fully and thoughtfully.
Gregory married Betty Lew on August 9, 1980, in Dallas, Texas. He also cared deeply for the animals who were part of his life, including dogs Tigger and Taffy, and cats Shaobai, Smokey, Stripes, Baobei, and Skrinkles.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father, John Watson; his mother, Betty Watson; and his nephew, Jonathan Guerrero.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lew-Watson; his daughter, Xurong Watson; his sister, Karen Watson-Guerrero; his sister, Tamara Watson; his niece, Nina Sparks; his great niece, Ava Sparks; and numerous cousins.
