Guadalupe Margarita Duarte de Gutierrez, known lovingly as Margaret Gutierrez, of Houston Texas passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at the young age of 76. She was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on September 13, 1947, to parents Juan Duarte Jr. and Olga Marquez Duarte.
Margaret met her husband, Andrew Lira Gutierrez, in Houston and were married on July 8, 1966. Margaret was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.
She is preceded in death by her brother Armando Duarte, infant daughter Athena Margarita Gutierrez, parents Olga and Juan Duarte and sister Olga Rosa Garcia.
She is survived by her husband Andew Lira Gutierrez, daughters Andrea Agustina (Daniel Cantu), Beda Marie (Travis Kent), Haidee Rosalie Gutierrez, son Andrew Lorenzo Gutierrez (Melissa Gutierrez), and embraced daughter Teresa Ann (Larry Selvera) and her family. Grandchildren Amanda Lenise (Scott Brown), Alicia Michelle McCain, Ariel Monique (Hilario Martinez), Bowin Daniel Gutierrez (Iris Gutierrez), Alyna Nicole (Cesar Montemayor), Benina Rosalie Gutierrez, Madeline Eve Carker, Brina Sue Kent, Brooklyn Marie Lesher, great grandchildren Andrew James Gilliam, Aiden Ali Taher, Athena Rose Martinez, Ace Jose Montemayor, expectant great grandchildren, many siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Margaret was well known in the school system her children attended and the activities they participated in, being heavily involved in the PTOs and booster clubs. She was also known for selling MaryKay cosmetics, crocheting winter hats and sewing using her signature zig-zag stitch. She had a love of the outdoors, particularly the beach where she would take the family fishing, crabbing, and collect beautiful sea shells. The sparkle of the ocean shown through her fondness for glitter nail polish and why blue was her favorite color.
Margaret will be deeply missed. Her soul was pure inside and out and her memory will remain forever in our hearts. She taught us what unconditional love truly is. The legacy she left behind is her beautiful family that will continue to honor and cherish her memory. Thank you to all who have reached out and offered your support and kindness.
A gathering for Margaret will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a celebration of life from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
