On January 27, 1959, he married the love of his life, Lydia Ochoa in Rio Grande City, Texas. Their love created Linda Guerrero(Perry), Lucy Tamayo(Israel), Cynthia Iverson(Scott), and Gustavo Adán Mayorga(Carmen). Gustavo had 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was the only son of Adán and Consuelo Mayorga and brother to Reina Espinoza, Yolanda Espinoza, Teresa Mayorga, San Juana Saenz, Elfida Garcia, Micaela Elizondo, and Corina Vela.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Ochoa Mayorga his sons, Omar, Gustavo Jr., Gregorio and daughter Lorena, both parents Adán and Consuelo Mayorga, and sisters Irene Conejo, Magdalena Rodriguez, and Ernestina Hernandez.
Gustavo was not just a truck driver by career. He was a compassionate soul who dedicated his time to making a difference in the lives of foster children. He along with his wife, Lydia, showed their love and kindness through the generous act of opening their hearts to troubled children from Texas Youth Commission and DePelchin to give them a sense of family. He selflessly, gave his time and heart to ensure they had the support and love of a parental figure. His dedication to both the open road, and open hearts of these children is a testament to his remarkable character, exemplifying profound impact, one person can have on the world.
Some of Gustavo’s favorite pastimes that brought joy and fulfillment to him were spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and baseball. Gustavo enjoyed sharing his passion and love of the great outdoors with his family which offered a unique blend of excitement and tranquility. His love of baseball was apparent as he cheered for his favorite team, the Astros. He greatly enjoyed being at his granddaughter’s and great grandson’s softball/baseball games.
Gustavo had an incredible gift for making people laugh. His sense of humor was infectious and he knew just how to lighten the mood in any situation. Laughter was not just a source of joy for those around him, but also reminder that sometimes the best way to navigate life’s ups and downs is with a hearty dose of laughter.
A visitation for Gustavo will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, with a rosary service from 7:00 PM to 8:0 PM. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 6, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A committal service will occur Friday, October 6, 2023 from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
