

Gwendolyn Biggs Dykes, born October 6, 1924, passed into eternal peace on December 20, 2013. She was born in Freestone County, Texas and she attended Teague High School and North Texas State University. She also worked for Humble Oil Company in Houston, Texas. As a woman of faith, she was an active member in First Baptist Church in Katy, Texas for many years and also volunteered in the Women’s Missionary Union. Gwen met the love of her life, Felix Dykes, and they were married on June 28, 1947, enjoying 47 beautiful years of marriage together.
Gwen is preceded in death by her husband Felix, and her parents, Zedok Headlee and Antoinette “Tony” Biggs.
She is remembered in life by her daughter, Dawn Orand and husband Steve, son, Tim Dykes and wife Becky, daughter Gay Munselle and her husband Ted, her sisters Ann Morris, Ruthie Dawson, Linda Sewell and Paula Prewitt as well as her loving grandchildren, Nicholas Orand, Austin Orand, Catherine Dykes, Chris Munselle, and Elyse Cochran who knew her simply as “Ginny”. Gwen is also survived by three great grandchildren, Helen Orand, Josiah Munselle and Layla Munselle.
Gwen loved to sew and work in her garden, admiring wild flowers and other creations from God in nature.
Her family would like to thank everyone at Home Instead, Parkway Place, and Buckner Hospice for their kindness and care.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, 2013. The Funeral Service will be officiated Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77079.
