Butch graduated from North Field High School and attended St. Olaf College for 2 years before receiving a degree from the United States Army as a pilot. He was married to Betty Hiel on September 23rd, 1989.
Butch had a career as a helicopter pilot for the United States Army, Transco, and Air Logistics. He was a loyal member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had a passion for travel, coin and stamp collecting, books, music, photography, dogs, and loved his job as a pilot.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Ridings and step-sons Rodney and Eric Powell; grandchildren Chris, Ryan, Reagan, Bowen, Dallas, Bailey, Madison, Abigail, and Landon; siblings Carol Arny, Lyle Hiel, Beth Ann Means, Cathy Curtis, Susan Reynolds, and Christy Sobota.
A Visitation will be held in his honor on Thursday, December 6th, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life service will take place at 12:00 p.m. after which he will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston Texas 77038, where he will be laid to rest with honors.
