Harold Wayne Mathena

Harold Wayne Mathena, of Houston, TX, was born on August 30, 1955 and entered into rest on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Harold was born in Tell City, Indiana and was the eldest of two children born to parents, Harold Mitchell and Mary Alice (McAdams) Mathena.

Growing up, Harold attended Tell City High School, and later Purdue University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in 1977. After graduation, Harold moved to Houston and began his career in the field of civil engineering. Harold highly valued education and had a drive to excel in his role as an engineer. In 2004, he earned his professional engineer certification in the field of civil engineering for the State of Texas.

On December 14, 1986, Harold was baptized at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston, Tx.

On September 24, 1988, Harold was married to Gladys Becker at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston, TX.

Harold was outgoing, loving, caring, and a great thinker. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, repairing and refurbishing all types of antiques, and later in life loved playing blackjack. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Purdue Boilermakers and Houston Astros.

Harold is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice (McAdams) Mathena; father and mother-in-law, Rubin and Ruth Becker; brothers-in-law, Larry Miertschin, Bernie Miertschin, and James Becker.

He is survived by his wife Gladys (Becker) Mathena; father, Harold M. Mathena; brother, Dennis Mathena and wife, Amy; beloved aunt, Gladys Gilbert; sisters-in-law, Frances Miertschin, Marilyn Miertschin, Darlene Becker, Elaine Boettcher and husband Dennis; brothers-in-law, Wayne Becker and wife Tamshaw, Glenn Becker and wife Denise; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Harold’s memory to Project Joy and Hope for Texas, Orphan Grain Train, or any charity of your choice.
