Trying to take a moment to put into words how I feel about you old man....I struggle relaying the message so I will just speak from my heart. 
Uncle Harold, I cannot remember a time when you weren't a part of my life.  My earliest memories involve all of us being at Lake Livingston, boating, swimming, fishing...basically taking the marina over.  There was no doubt once the Schindler's arrived at that marina, the pavilion was ours and we were quite the force to be reckoned with.  
I remember BBQ's, grilling, burgers and hot dogs.  I remember roasting marshmallows over the campfire, I remember campfires becoming bonfires when a few too many beers were consumed by the adults, I remember tons of laughter and joke telling, and I remember your infectious laugh...that wheezing snicker you would get to when something was just funnier than most.  
I remember soap-sudded trampoline experiences, I remember learning to drive in that big blue Ford Thunderbird, I remember you ripping my butt for driving that big blue car without permission and I remember you promising not to tell my mom about it.  
Life was pretty much a big party it seemed...until February of 1980.  That was when the world as we knew it turned on its axis, that is when we lost my Dad.  I still think a piece of you and Uncle Ronald were both buried along with my Dad that day.  
It would have been so easy for you to wash your hands of Mom, Wayne and myself....but you never let that happen.  You made sure we were still included in the Schindler clan, you made sure we were still welcome, you made sure to take care of your baby brothers boys....and for that I will always be eternally grateful.  
As years moved on, the visits to the lake lessened, life just seems to get in the way it seems, but we never really lost contact.  
Then one day, you and Aunt Pat moved back to Houston.  I remember going over to that house near the Belt when I got my first car.  You opened the hood of that car, you shook your head, and you said 'Boy, what the hell have you gotten yourself into?'   Basically, you spent the next hour or so pointing out ALL the things wrong with my first car...but you also knew that this was my first car, it was my dream sports car, and you just shrugged, mumbled a few choice words under your breath, and knew that you would forever be my personal mechanic.  I think that car spent more weekends in your driveway than anywhere else, usually with the hood up, usually with about a thousand car parts scattered all over the place, usually with you dealing with greasy hands and cursing up a storm, and usually with me standing nearby...not having a clue what you were doing....but just waiting patiently until you were finished and I could jump back in that drivers seat, just to tear something else up a few days later and bring it back to you to fix all over again.  And you know what....you just kept right on fixing it, griping about how much money was being poured into that no good car, and me just reminding you that YOU were the mechanic and I expected miracles so you just kept fixing it...over and over.  
You were a fine representation of the Schindler name, you taught me to be proud of my last name, you basically demanded it.  
You were never the overly affectionate person, some might even say a bit gruff....but those that knew you, knew if you were making fun of us, if you were telling us jokes, if you took the time to show us your latest car project....then that was affection.  
You taught me many things in my lifetime.  You taught me the importance of a strong work ethic.
You taught me that my family name should be a source of pride.
You taught me how to laugh and how to cut up.
You taught me patience....wait, no, you definitely did not teach me that.  
As a child, I have fond memories, and as an adult, I have even more.  Even up to a few weeks ago at Uncle Ronald's birthday party, you were cracking jokes and saying inappropriate things...and you still had me laughing.  
When I woke yesterday to the howling winds and monsoon type rains in Houston...the VERY first thing that popped in my mind was you were up there raising hell in the Heavens with Dad again.  I cannot imagine the trouble you two are going to cause up there...and I am also pretty sure we have several more storms to go down here as a result, but I also know you are up there happy, dealing with no pain, laughing with Dad and being with Aunt Pat and others who have left us down here.  I know you are at peace.  
I am not going to lie and say this is easy for us down here, nor am I going to say I am not worried about the impact all of this is going to have on Angie, Rhonda, Brenda, Uncle Ronald and Momma....but I also know that you will expect us to keep it together and to take it one day at a time and move on as best we can.  
You will be missed Uncle Harold by many, you will be missed by me.  I love you old man, and I thank you for all of the years of laughter and tears and learning experiences and chaos and repairs and generally just being you and not apologizing for that.  

Now it is time to rest.  Please remember to save me a seat and be prepared to catch me up on all the shenanigans you and Daddy have been up to.
Lastly, between me and you only, thanks for always sharing the PinWheels with me when I was a kid.  Crazy how THAT is one of my fondest memories and one that I hold closest to my heart.

Uncle Harold along with Uncle Ronald were always the cool Uncles in my family. I remember wanting to be like them when I was a kid. A great example of how to live life with laughter and doing what you love. Though not always around much of my family as a kid, Uncle Harold always had a presence in my life. He was what an Uncle was supposed to be. He made his nephews want to be like him.

Uncle Harold you will truly be missed!! You always kept us laughing with all your jokes at all the family get togethers! I know Brenda ,Angie, and Rhonda amongst many others will miss you dearly you were a great father, grandfather, husband and uncle! I know you are celebrating with the love of your life up there in heaven! We love you!

We met Angie and Harold a few months ago at Willie's. After visiting him this past Friday we decided to go back to Willie's to celebrate the man that we come to know and love.  Even though our friendship was cut short, we will cherish the time that we had together.  The Harold that we knew was warm, friendly, funny, witty and wasn't shy about sharing what was on his mind.  We looked forward to seeing Angie and Harold at Casa Nueva on Wednesday nights and even though Harold won't physically be with us, he will always be in our hearts and will remain a part of our conversation and when we think of him we will smile.

It was a great pleasure knowing and getting to talk cars and hot rods with you. I'll never forget the Vacation to Tenn. with you and your daughter , my girlfriend (Angie Carr Schindler) looking at all those fine rides on Beal Street !!

Harold sweety I have always loved you and Ronnie. I will miss you so bad but I have always heard that God only picks the sweetest flowers  to bloom in our masters bouquet, and you were a beautiful flower. Now you will never wither or fade away. You will never be in any pain and will forever be young.  I love you baby rest in peace and don't worry. We will meet again.

Uncle Harold you were a wonderful man who is going to be greatly missed...I'm happy that you are no longer suffering and that you are now in heaven with your love Aunt Pat and daddy...I bet the welcoming committee was breathtaking...I will miss you!!

Rest easy, Uncle Harold. You will be missed!

I love and miss you so much.  Who is going to be my date now when I go out to dinner.  I do not have anyone to watch westerns and Fox News I know that sounds crazy to some people but I truly did like watching fox and westerns.  Oh by the way someone ran thru your house again not for sure if you are up there laughing your butt of or what but please give me some kind of guidence.
