

Harry G. Rhodes age 84 passed away on July 12, 2012. He was born in Lexington, Tennessee on July 15, 1927, to humble beginnings, the youngest of five children. He was raised in Humboldt, Tennessee and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1946.
Harry met his wife of 56 years, Dorothy W. Rhodes in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1952, they married December 27, 1956. Harry graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Transportation. He worked for 42 years in management and sales in the transportation industry. Harry moved his family to Houston in 1963 and he called it home for the rest of his life. He was the president of the Transportation Club of Houston from 1973-74, a member of Delta Nu Alpha, and the Houston Freight Carriers Association. Harry loved to play golf and was a member of the Inwood Forest Country Club for many years. Harry retired from AAA Cooper Transportation in 1994.
In 1996 he started his second career; he and his son Shane started Rhodes Auto Sales. He was a member of the Houston Independent Automobile Dealers Association. In 1999 and 2009 Rhodes Auto Sales was named Quality Dealer of the Year by HIADA.
Harry was a loving husband, father and Pop-Pop. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son Shane G. Rhodes and wife Debra and their sons, Chase and Colt; his daughter Rhoda J. Alvarez and husband Oscar and their sons, Samuel and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, July 18th from 6:00-8:00pm at Pat H. Foley & Co. A service to celebrate Harry’s life will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, July 19th at the chapel of Pat H. Foley & Co. with Pastor Paul Thomasson officiating. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
