On Thursday, July 9, 2026, Hattie Marie Sanders entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior at the age of 65. Born on January 8, 1961, in Houston, Texas, Hattie lived a life defined by perseverance, wisdom, quiet strength, and unwavering faith.
To many, Hattie was an accomplished Senior Human Resources professional who earned a master’s degree in business management while working her way through college. She believed deeply in education, was an avid reader, and possessed an exceptional understanding of people. Her years in Human Resources gave her an uncommon ability to see beyond appearances and understand how the world truly worked. She carried that wisdom with confidence, humility, and purpose.
But to those who knew her best, those accomplishments were only part of her story.
Her greatest life’s work was being a mother. As a single parent, Hattie faced challenges that many people never saw. There were seasons when money was scarce, uncertainty was constant, and every day required faith. During one especially difficult period, she and her son shared simple bologna sandwiches for lunch and dinner for months while she searched for stable employment. She never allowed hardship to become hopelessness. Instead, she met every obstacle with determination, dignity, and an unshakable belief that better days were coming.
Her son learned far more from watching her than from anything she could have said.
She taught him how to think instead of simply what to think. She taught him to understand people, recognize opportunity, carry himself with confidence, and navigate the world with wisdom and discernment. Those lessons, learned from childhood and refined throughout his military career, became one of the greatest gifts she ever gave him. The strength that carried Hattie through life became the same strength that would carry her son.
Today, that legacy continues in the accomplished man she raised—Christian Sanders, an Aircraft Avionics Systems Specialist whose success stands as one of the clearest reflections of his mother’s sacrifice, guidance, and love.
Hattie’s faith was the foundation of everything she did. As a devoted member of New Light Christian Center Church in Houston, she trusted God through every season of her life. Whether celebrating victories or enduring hardship, her faith remained steadfast and became the source of the resilience that inspired everyone around her.
Hattie is lovingly survived by her son, Christian; her sister, Marilyn; her brother, Cleaver (Bridgette); her niece, Sheridan; her aunt Nell; a host of nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friends, Thelma and Brenda. She was preceded in death by both parents; her brothers, Henry and Jimmy; her sisters Mary Ann and Elnora, and her beloved nephew, Damien.
Those who read her name may never know every challenge she endured or every sacrifice she quietly made. But they should know this:
Hattie Marie Sanders was extraordinarily strong.
She changed the course of her family’s future through faith, sacrifice, education, and unconditional love. The life her son lives today is, in many ways, the harvest of seeds she planted decades ago. Her influence will continue long after her voice has fallen silent because the character she instilled lives on in those she loved.
Her race has been run. Her work is finished. Her legacy endures.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
