Hazel C. Fender Hoopingarner, 84, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2014 in Houston, TX. She was born on July 1, 1929 in Montrose, Colorado, and raised by her mother, Anna Doretta Fender. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark E. Hubert (Pat), Nancy H. Boyd (Owen), Cheryl H. Wilson (Doug), Dr. Charles R. Hoopingarner (Gayla), Marcia Hoopingarner Beach; thirteen grandchildren Cindy, Diane, Kristen, Sarah, Rachel, Michael, James, Stephen, Heather, Chad, Blake, Margie, and Matt; and twelve greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald J Hubert of 15 years, her second husband, George E. Hoopingarner of 37 years, and her brother Richard (Si) Fender.
Hazel grew up in Montrose, Colorado. She graduated from Montrose High School and Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. She was an elementary school teacher, and she was active in PEO and Tri Delta. She actively participated in various church activities at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, including singing in the choir, and Stephens Ministry. She loved music, playing the clarinet and the violin. Hazel liked entertaining friends, traveling, and trying new recipes. She was a very social person & loved spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by them all. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the friends and caregivers at Treemont Healthcare Living Facility. Also, we would like to thank the personnel and volunteers from Houston Hospice.
Family will receive friends for visitation near the chapel at 1:00 pm on Friday, 1/31/14 at Forest Park Westheimer.
