The daughter of Janet and Donald Edgar, Heather was born in Switzerland and spent her childhood years in China, Italy, and Egypt, as her father was in the Foreign Service, moving to the United States to attend high school and college.
She married William Thomas Carter IV of Houston in 1965. The marriage produced three daughters and a son before ending in divorce in 1989. Midway through the marriage, she returned to college, receiving a degree in early childhood education. She taught for many years at Parish School. Along with the deep friendships developed over the past fifty years, her love of books and children never waned.
Heather had an apartment at the Park at River Oaks for the past eight years. She enjoyed watching the apartment complex’s children playing around the pool just below her windows, and her adult children were often regaled with her wonderful observations. She took enormous pleasure in her two youngest grandchildren living in Colorado, delighting in their visits, and carefully choosing and meticulously wrapping books to send to each on a regular basis. A third adult grandson was often in her thoughts.
She is survived by two brothers,Tom and Tony Edgar and their families; three daughters, Alexandra, Roxi, and Erin; and a son, William; their spouses; and her three grandchildren, the youngest of whom remarked as her health was failing, that Heather was “going to be Queen of the Fairies.”
Her children are deeply grateful for the unfaltering assistance and companionship offered by LivHome, an at-home senior care organization.
