The late Kim Hee-soo, who lived like a cloud and wind, loving the mountains and the sea, was born on July 5, 1938, in Beolgyo, Jeollanam-do. He was the eldest son of Kim Young-ho and Kang Mi-rye and had two brothers and a sister.
He lost his father at the age of 10 and later moved to Gyeongju. At the age of 26, he met Lee Tae-ok, whom he married, and together they had one son and three daughters.
In 1995, he immigrated to Houston, Texas, where he ran his own donut business for 10 years. Though he had been a lifelong Buddhist, he began attending church with his children, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord, and was later appointed as a deacon.
After retiring, he spent his golden years in gratitude with his wife and children. He deeply loved his five grandchildren. In the last 10 years of his life, he lived with mild dementia, but he always remembered his children’s names and reassured them by always saying he was okay. His presence comforted them, even in illness.
Sadly, he was hospitalized with pneumonia and passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 6, 2025, surrounded by his beloved Lord, his daughter, and his wife.
Though I can no longer see my father in this life, I believe the Lord has joyfully welcomed his soul into His arms. I take comfort in knowing he is now at peace. One day, we will meet again with joy in the Kingdom of God and live together forever.
Dad, goodbye.
I love you so much.
With all my heart,
Your child
Light under the shade
You were always in the shade, but you were a brighter person than anyone else.
You tied my shoelaces without saying a word and quietly put your hand on my shoulder.
You conveyed your love deeper than words with one eye.
When you smiled, the whole house was warm.
The night you fell asleep, the world became quiet.
