Helen grew up helping her widowed mother around the house and providing childcare when her mother had to work out of town. At 17 years old, her school teacher introduced her to a good-looking soldier returning from service, and they were married a month later and remained married for 37 years. Audie and Helen had five children. While performing her homemaking duties and valuing education, she determined to obtain her GED. Helen was a loving wife and devoted mother. She later entered the workforce performing various jobs and eventually retired from retail sales.
After Audie’s passing, Helen met Jack Eggink a number of years later. They married and enjoyed many wonderful years together, square dancing and traveling in the US until Jack became ill. Helen was fiercely independent until the end and still lived independently in a community where she had many wonderful friends. She enjoyed the company of her family more than anything. Her faith in Jesus Christ defined who she was and she enjoyed attending church every week. Helen will be lovingly remembered for her caring, servant heart, her sense of humor, and her love for the Lord, family, and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Audie Brock and Jack Eggink; her children, Linda Alston, Larry Brock, Betty Grady, and Weldon Brock; grandchild, Steven Conroy.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Pamela K. Anderson, and sons-in-law, Nick Anderson and Jimmy Alston; grandchildren, Kevin Alston, Lisa Alston, Erica Alston, Kristy Alston, Monica Hains, Ricky Grady, and Izzy Anderson; and several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
