

Henri Francis (Israel) Irvington, age 89, passed away on October 25, 2017 in Houston, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but spent his childhood in Paris, France and Brussels Belgium before fleeing Europe during World War II. He attended college in the East including Queens College where he was captain of the soccer team. He spent his early twenties in New York City, where he met and was briefly married to his first wife Leonora Comoro. He later traveled extensively through Latin and Central America with his father selling religious artifacts when in Houston, Texas he met his second wife Angie Carolyn Branch and decided to settle down and start a family in Texas. He went on to become a Math and French teacher, soccer coach and mentor to many students and faculty at St. Thomas Episcopal in Meyerland in Houston where he spent over 40 years teaching. It is there he found and strengthened his Christianity and met his soul mate, traveling partner and last wife, Marilyn Cooley. He never really recovered from her loss but was very happy living the last four years with his daughter and son in law in Houston. His hobbies and pastimes until the time of his death was reading, playing solitaire, watching classic films and enjoying a good soccer game.
He is survived by his sister, Antoinette Moore, daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Steve Scholtes, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10:00am, 4900 Jackwood, Houston, TX 77096. The family will greet friends following the service in the courtyard of the church. The Scholtes family would like to thank DaVita Dialysis and their staff and the many doctors and staff for their loving care.
