Henry Maurice Guerrero, 99, beloved husband and father, died Monday, November 8th in Houston, Texas. He was born on September 23, 1911 in Beaumont, Texas, the sixth child to S. Louis Ladin Guerrero and Mary Mares, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his 3 brothers, Carl Ladin, Anthony C. Guerrero and Richard J. Guerrero; and his 3 sisters, Sarah Bailleres, Ann Marie McNeil and Mary Juarez. He has one surviving sister, Reilma Montgomery of Kerrville, Texas. Henry lived and grew up in Beaumont until he was 8 years old and then the family moved to Houston to the Norhill area. As a young teenager, he worked as a caddie at the Hermann Park Golf Course and then later at Klein Ice Cream Company. When WWII broke out, he volunteered to serve in the Marines. He served in the I Battery, 2nd Battalion (known as “Forgotten Battalion”) and was in four major battles of the Pacific (Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Saipan). After the war ended, he returned home and continued his employment with Klein Ice Cream. In 1955, Swift Ice Cream purchased Klein’s. He met his wife, Louise Reagan, and they were married December 10, 1949 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. From this union, they had 2 daughters, Denise Guerrero Flinn (Michael R. Flinn) of Bellaire, Texas and Karen Gail Guerrero of Caldwell, Texas. Henry and Louise resided in Bellaire Texas for 30 years and attended the Bellaire church of Christ. Henry retired from Swift Ice Cream (ConAgra) January 1976. He then worked for Kelly’s Hardware store in Bellaire; and then they moved to Katy, Texas and attended Fry Road church of Christ. He continued to work at Katy Hardware and then at Walgreens until the age of 85. After Louise retired in 1995, the two embarked on several WWII USMC reunions though out the country. Henry is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. We express gratitude to his caregivers, hospice, doctors and nurses during his later years of life.
