From the time he was a young boy, Henry enjoyed watching games with his family. It didn’t matter if it was football, basketball, or baseball. He loved them all. This spurred him on to dedicate his life to sport in all its forms. Henry graduated from Galveston Ball High School in 1968, where he was the star quarterback of their football team, and went on to receive a degree in Kinesiology from Texas Southern University. He worked for Sammons Elementary School for 16 years in the field of physical education. Henry’s career enabled him to combine his passions for teaching and sports, while still giving him time to unwind and go fishing. Henry was also a dedicated veteran and served in the Air Force.
He is survived by Lisa Lopez, his partner of 14 years; children Donny Ford, Tamieka Graves, and Henry D. King III; grandchildren Markesha, Michael, Marcus, Matthew, Malcolm, Alexis, Triston, Trischelle, Kloe, Kiyanna, Kassidee, Kamden Henry, and Kolten; great-grandchild Marcus Jr.; siblings Audrey, Bo, Jimmy, and Patrick. Henry was preceded in death by his parents Erskie Mae and Henry D. Sr., daughter Toya King, and brother Michael Martin.
