Henry Taylor Milligan of Houston, Texas passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the age of 89. Henry was born on March 31, 1934 in Kaufman, Texas to Henry Thomas Milligan and Vernie Leora (Pope) Milligan. He grew up on a farm, as the eldest of five children. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Henry met the love of his life, Ruth Ellan Kirby at the Peak and East Side Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas. They married on July 6, 1957.
Henry was dedicated to his family and the church. He and Ellan lived in many parts of Texas, before settling in Houston in 1974 with their three children. He served as an elder at the Mission Bend Church of Christ and as a volunteer chaplain at Hampton Place. He has been a member of the First Colony Church of Christ since 2016.
Henry attended Abilene Christian College and Texas Tech University. He retired from The Dow Chemical Company with over 20 years of service, including extended assignments in Melbourne, Australia, and Beijing, China. He was always energetic, and ready to learn something new. At the age of 75, he earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. In 2020, he served as Worshipful Master of the Garden Oaks Masonic Lodge.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glen Thomas Milligan, and his sister Janice May Gibson. He is survived by his wife Ellan Milligan, son Mark Milligan of Houston, daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Richard Longley of College Station, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Tracie Milligan of Katy, grandchildren Ben Longley, Catherine Longley, and Liam Milligan, Brothers Gene Milligan and Robert Milligan, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home (12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077) on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
