Henry Robert Milne

He was born on March 1, 1927, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He lived a long and fascinating life that took him to the far reaches of the world and everywhere in between—from Scotland to England, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and more. Everyone who met him said he should have written a book about his life.

From growing up in difficult times in Edinburgh, to joining the British Army and volunteering for the Parachute Regiment, to being stationed in Palestine after World War II; from emigrating to Canada with his first wife, Lilian, and their oldest daughter, Carol, and welcoming their second daughter, Michele, eight years later; to being hired by a large Wall Street trading company to open an office in Singapore, working surreptitiously in Saudi Arabia, and then moving to Hong Kong as a vice president with Citibank; to retiring in Florida and, lastly, living in Houston for the past 25 years—Harry had an incredible life full of travel, adventure, family, and love.

He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Lilian, whom he met while stationed in her hometown of Salisbury, England, in 1946. They eloped six months later in Edinburgh and were married until her death in 1994. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nessie Darlison, and brother, Bert Milne.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helene Atlas, whom he met in Houston. They eloped to Las Vegas 11 years ago and spent their years together traveling and cruising the world.

He is also survived by his daughters, Carol Altman-Simmons and Michele Perkins; son-in-law, Geoff Perkins; grandchildren, Nicholas Altman and his wife, Jennifer, Zachary, Fiona, and Aidan Perkins; and great-grandchildren, Kyla and Connor Altman, as well as many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom.

His family meant the world to him, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for each and every one of them. He touched the lives of people around the world and treated everyone he met equally. His stories, love, generosity, and presence will be greatly and forever missed.

His funeral will be held on Sunday, September 27, at 11:00 am at Texas Liberty Mausoleum on Reflection Lake at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. Please call 713-907-9998 on the day of for directions, if needed.
