Henry Lawrence Moody, 90, of Tomball, Texas, passed away on July 11, 2025. He was born in Ringold, Texas on September 18, 1934 to parents John Henry Sylvester Moody and Martha Jane (Molly) Wilson Moody.
Henry achieved his GED from NFISD prior to joining the Navy in 1951, where he was assigned to the USS Cushing, and was a Korean War Veteran.
While in the Navy and stationed in California he met the love of his life, Velen Villareal, and they were married on November 19, 1955 and remained devoted to each other until she preceded him in death December 26, 1997. They enjoyed many travels while he was in the Navy, including being stationed in Hawaii, and often told stories of their time there.
Henry and Velen relocated to Houston, Texas after he was discharged and lived in various areas of Houston where they enjoyed many friends. Henry was employed in various occupations and was a man of many skills. In later years he loved telling stories of his youth, his time in the service on the USS Cushing. He was an avid Republican, member of the NRA, and loved his Fords! You had to listen to it if you pulled into his driveway in anything but a Ford! He was also just full of what we refer to as “Henryizms” and kept everyone in stitches trying to figure out what some of them meant.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Sylvester and Martha Jane (Molly) Wilson Moody; his loving wife, Velen Villareal Moody; brother, Richard Sylvester Moody; sisters, Leona Leverett, Pearl Alexander, and twins Pauline Fay Hatcher and Lorene May Goodwin.
Henry is survived by a plethora of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, as well as two special friends he made along the way that have stayed by his side in these later years, Toni Turner and Kyle Martin.
Special thanks to Elisa and Randy Maxwell, Toni Turner, Kyle Martin, Blissful Living Care, and Devotion Hospice Care for the kindness afforded him in letting him do his final journey in his own way.
In lieu of flowers, should you desire to honor Henry, please make a donation to the Arthritis Foundation, Rett Foundation, Wounded Warriors, or a charity of your choice.
