Herbert Stanley Groot, Jr. took his place in Heaven beside his beloved wife, Marilyn, on February 10, 2016, in Sugar Land, Texas. Born on September 16, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio to Herbert Stanley Groot, Sr. and Lucy Groot, he leaves to blessed memory his daughter, Maryalice Bachani and husband, Bob; son, Jay Michael Groot and companion Lori Murphy, brothers Tom and Bill and many friends and relatives.
Herb graduated from Macomber & Whitney High School in Toledo, and then went on to serve in the Army National Guard of Ohio. He began a 33-year career with Gulf Refining Company in Ohio, which became Gulf Oil Corporation. In the early sixties, Herb was transferred to Houston, where he remained until he retired when Chevron bought Gulf.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Tex. 77077 on Monday, February 15, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 16, at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 4600 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, Tex. 77401.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
