Hart was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Herbert Hartwell Peebles, Sr., and Marjorie Kay Peebles on the 14th of September 1937. After moving to Houston, Hart graduated from Lamar High School in 1955 and Rice University in 1959. At Rice, he was a 3-year letterman in football. After serving for 12 years in the Naval Reserve, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Hart began his career at First Mortgage Company of Texas, where he later attained the position of Vice President. In 1973, he started Peebles Management Company, where he worked until retirement. He loved traveling and spending time with cherished friends in the River Oaks Breakfast Club. Also, for 52 years, Hart enjoyed his friends – and the wonderful staff – at the Houston Country Club. He was a faithful member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
Hart was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Ben Craig Zamzow. He is survived by his daughter, Carroll and husband, Darren Zamzow; his daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Troy Snelling; his daughter, Ann and husband, Christopher Green; his son, Herbert Hartwell Peebles III; and his seven grandchildren – Kate, Turner, Luke, Caroline, Zachary, Bodie, and Garrett; and sister, Kay Goehring and husband, Dennis.
Our Papa will be dearly missed for the passion, love, and adventure he shared with all those he loved.
