Hilda Porras Herrera

Affectionately referred to as "Abi" by her grandchildren, Hilda was born on January 28, 1929, in Ciudad Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Alfonso Porras and Aurelia Marquez.Hilda was educated in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; graduating from technical college with certification in Administration and Accounting.

After attending Incarnate Word Academy in Houston to continue her education and master her English language skills, she received her diploma and returned to Juarez. Upon graduation she began working in El Paso, TX at a stock brokerage house, then later as a legal secretary for a law firm.Hilda met the love of her life, Oscar Bartholemew Herrera and was married February 6, 1954.

Soon thereafter, they started their family. In 1965, the family relocated from El Paso to Houston for Oscar's work as a Metallurgical Engineer with the Armco Steel Company. Hilda was a devoted Catholic, wife, mother, and loving grandmother, never missing an opportunity to be with all she loved so dear. Hilda's other interests included cultivating flowers, entertaining, cooking, gardening, and small sculpture. For years, she was an active member of Sembradores de Amistad Educational Foundation, Mexico Bello, and Familias Unidas.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Oscar B. and brother Humberto Porras. She is survived by her brother Dagoberto Porras, and children Oscar F., William and wife Judy, Rosario and husband Patrick, Rafael and wife Vivian and eight beautiful grandchildren Luke, Olivia, Caleb, Chloè, Ethan, Roberto, Claire, and Isabella; all the light of her life.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 2, 2015, 6:00 p.m., and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston TX 77025. The Funeral Liturgy will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
