Mr. Horace Shelburne Knight, 92, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Parkway Place Nursing Home in Houston Texas. Mr. Knight was born in Iowa City, Iowa on February 9, 1920, to parents Frank Hyneman Knight and Minerva Shelburne Knight. He received a degree in Chemical Engineering from the State University of Iowa and went to work for Shell Development Company in California. Mr. Knight had a 42-year career with Shell in California and Houston during which he wrote and co-authored a dozen or more papers and parts of two books on Analytical Chemistry. He had a rich tenor voice, sang with the Oakland Orpheus Club and was an active member in the choirs of the First Congregational Church of Berkeley, California and Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston. During his life he enjoyed backpacking, camping, photography, tennis, classical music, reading and spending time with his family.
Mr. Knight was preceded in death by his first wife Isme Robertson Knight and his sisters Alice Knight and Susan Fulljames. He is survived by his wife Doris Blackburn Knight of Houston, his sister Laura Safir of Berkeley, California; children Barbara Knight of Houston, Keith Knight of New Hampshire, Beverly Barnett of Houston, stepsons Albert Janke and Bruce Janke; grandchildren Erin, William, Rebecca, Travis, Leigh, Grant, Alicia, Cade and Audrey, and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
