

Howard attended Houston’s public schools and graduated from Reagan High School in 1933. He graduated from Rice Institute in 1937 and from University of Texas Law School in 1940. Howard married his beloved sweetheart, Vivian Fargerson, in 1939. He practiced law briefly before beginning service in the Army Air Corps. His professional career was almost entirely as an employee of Humble Oil Co. and Exxon. He retired in 1984 and then continued, with his teammate Vivian and their family, the operation of their beautiful farm in Fayette County.
. His precious, devoted wife, Vivian, died in 2002. His brothers, Thomas and Donald, and his sisters Margaret Bybee and Elizabeth Britton also predeceased him. He is survived by daughter Anne Wright and husband Bill of Praha, Texas, and their children Madeleine, Patti, Steve and Teri, Linda and Doug and grandchildren Timothy, Rachel, Alyson, Stephanie, Hillary, Emily, Patrick, Sky, Cassidy, and Casey, his sons Howard Jr., James Gready and wife Patti, their children Jessica Karlsruher, husband David and daughter Connealy Rose of El Paso, Cathleen Gready and Erin Gready, many much-loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening on Wednesday, the 9th of March, in the Drawing Room of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 10th of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, donations in Howard's honor may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
