Hubert, also known as Little Brother, was educated in the Houston Public School system.
He began his work career at the age of 15 but in 1952, he opened a new chapter in life and served in the Armed Services. With honor, he served as a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with several prestigious awards including the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star.
He served his country with dedication and pride devoting his service years to protecting the lives of the citizens of the United States. There is so much to be said about Hubert’s dedication to his country and his willingness to serve. A heart of service is one to be commended but the service did not stop there.
After serving his country, he returned to his home in Houston and at that point he met the love of his life, Dorothy Mae.
On September 23, 1958, he was united in holy matrimony with Dorothy Mae. And with this union they raised 5 children, Dwight, Hubert Lynn, Christy, Lillie, and Derick.
In 1965, he began his career at the Houston Ship Channel as a Long Shore Man ILA Local 24. He worked diligently until his retirement in 1995. Serving the Houston Ship Channel for over 30 years.
He joined in membership with his wife, Dorothy, at the Greater True Vine Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon I, a Brotherhood member, and Treasurer of the Christmas Fund Committee. He was honored with the Deacon of the Year Award in 1996.
Soon after retirement, Hubert joined New Hope Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Tracy Philips. His faith in God and willingness to continue as a Christian believer gave him the fortitude to walk on in the journey of life.
Even after retirement, he never stopped working. His devotion as a father and husband continued until the day of his passing.
Hubert had simple pleasures and enjoyed peppermints and pound cake on occasion.
