He graduated from La Marquis High School in 1961 where he played football and basketball. After graduation Hugh worked while attending college. He put college on hold to serve in the U.S. Air Force. Hugh earned an Air Force Commendation medal in 1969 for his energetic application of knowledge in resolving telecommunications problems at the Tuy Hoa Air Base in Vietnam. Following his time in the Air Force, Hugh attended Auburn University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He spent most of his career in telecommunications, retiring from IBM as a project manager.
Hugh and Linda were married in 1999 after dating for 6 years. Together, they loved spending time at their condo in Destin, Florida where they could fish, boat, drink Coors Light, and dance the night away. Hugh was a loving, caring, and devoted husband, stepfather, and step-grandfather. His friends and family described him as a genuinely great guy and the life of the party.
Hugh is preceded in death by his mother and father; stepmother, Mary Ledbetter; brothers, Lewis Ferrell Ledbetter, Tommy Ledbetter and his wife Rebecca. He is survived by his wife, Linda; stepdaughter, Shelly Franklin and her husband, Kenny of Cypress; stepson, Chad Thibodeaux and his wife, Tina of Horseshoe Bay; sister-in-law Evelyn Ledbetter and Linda’s grandchildren, extended family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Accredited Hospices of America, Bethel Comfort Care and the private caregivers who took care of Hugh over the years he was ill. We are truly grateful for the care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Houston Alzheimer’s Association or National Veterans Outreach.
