

Inez McNabb Childers, 94, of Tomball, Texas, entered into rest on Thursday, September 12, 2019. She was born in Clarksville, Texas on January 31, 1925 to parents Elvira and James Thomas McNabb. Following her mother’s passing, she was raised by her stepmother Ruthie, who loved her as her own, and her father James Thomas.
Inez was married to Harold Eugene Childers on December 12, 1945, and together they raised a beautiful family until his passing in 1971. During her life she had a career as a Nurse’s Aide, worked with the Hermann Estate, and even had a job in retail dealing with fabric – a position which perfectly tied into her love of sewing. Inez loved to challenge herself and could often be found reading and doing word puzzles, or listening to sacred hymns.
Inez is survived by her children, Linda Dirzanowski and husband Robert, Janice Spear and husband Sutton, Phyllis Ocean and husband Jon, Carla Friday and husband Glen, and Harold Childers II; grandchildren, Keri Mueller and husband Brad, Amy Mounger and husband Brad, Allison Smith and husband Cary, Colleen Haley and husband Chris, Nick Ocean, Ruthie Ocean, Samantha Ocean, Jennifer Vedder and husband Mark, Alan Friday; great-grandchildren, Riley and Evan Mueller, Jacob and Caroline Mounger, Claire and Bridgette Smith, Emma and Andrew Vedder, and Liza, Malloy, Jack Haley, and Zen Ocean; sister-in laws: Faye McNabb of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Yvonne McNabb of Blossom, Texas, Minnie McNabb of Wallace, South Carolina, Earline Childers of Marlow, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. Inez was preceded in passing by her parents, Elvira and James Thomas; stepmother, Ruthie; husband, Harold; siblings, Truly Mae McNabb, Basil McNabb, Vaughdean Lee, Sarah Reno, James Thomas McNabb, Jr., Marshall McNabb; and great-grandchild, Fredrick Franklin Smith.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Monday, September 23, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life service will commence at 11:30 a.m., after which she will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, where she will be reunited with her beloved husband.
