Since Carla and I were best friends both at church and school, I spent a lot of time with Mrs. Childers.  I spent many nights over on Barberton.  Mrs. Childers was so funny, without meaning to be, which made her funnier!   Carla, I still remember the things she would say that would totally crack us up!  I have lots of good memories at that house on Barberton.   Here's sending love to you all, and although it's a sad time, I'm joyfully writing this because of the hope believers have... we will all see her again!

Granny was an amazing woman for so many different reasons.  She was funny and warm, and she had a tremendous amount of spunk.  She would tell you exactly what she thought. I remember weekends spent at her house on Barberton, sometimes with my cousins and sometimes just her, Uncle Harold and me.  I loved those times so much -- I always felt so special and loved.  And that's what I will always remember about her. When I was little, instead of saying "I love you", she would tell me "I jubba joo". I'm sure it was because that's how one of us cousins said it when we were too small to speak clearly. Well Granny, I miss you and I jubba joo too.

I have many, many wonderful memories of Aunt Inez. I think the oldest memory is when the family lived in Dayton, Ohio (I think that’s correct) and Uncle Gene and Aunt Inez and the girls would drive to Clarksville to visit us. They ALL were in a dark blue SMALL car, and I wondered how they could make such a long trip in the small car. After they moved to Houston, Aunt Inez would let Linda come stay a week with us during the summer. The  most memorable thing about Aunt Inez was when I asked her why she never remarried after Uncle Gene passed at such a young age.  She spoke in her soft, sweet voice and said , “I am still married, that’s why.”  This is something I’ll never forget about her. I loved Aunt Inez so much and wish I could be half the woman she was. Rest In Peace, Auntie.

Remembering my years growing up, we would spend some holidays at Aunt Inez’s house.  Santa Claus would always seem to find us. One Halloween we were at her house and all of us girls went trick or treating (which we wouldn’t let our kids do now).  We used large brown paper grocery sacks to carry our haul of candy that night in. After seemingly an endless walk around the neighborhood to me, we went back to her house and poured it all in big piles. Enough candy for a year!! Always a great time.

I just want to tell the family how sorry I am for there loss.

This wonderful lady was very special to me. I work with Glen Friday. When she stayed with her daughter she would make her very famous brand muffins and send them to work with Glen for us to enjoy.  They were wonderful and we miss them so much. I tried to make them but of course they did not taste like hers.

She was a very special lady.  She will be missed so much 

Aunt Inez was a lovely lady.  Although our families sometimes got together at vacation time I really felt closest to her because she always sent cards; especially at Christmas.  I know she sent them as long as she was able. This loving gesture spoke to me. It told of her kind and generous spirit. Even when I failed to send her a card she didn’t give up on me. She was a sweet lady and she made a difference in this world.

Dear Ms. Childers, you were such a sweet Granny to our children; even though we were only in-laws.  I remember not too long ago you asked me to play and record a few hymns for you on the piano.  I was not able to do that in person, but sent you a collection of piano hymns on CD that I hope you enjoyed.  It was always a delight to see you at Carla's.  You will be missed by so many, but especially by our girls, Stacey Friday Hill and Jaclyn Friday Valencia.

I will never forget the year we had Christmas at your house. And everyone's gifts from Santa were all in the den. Each family had its own place!!! I can't remember how old I was but it made a special memory for me. Uncle Gene and your mother were the perfect hosts.

I have many great memories of Gran Gran. When I was little, I was a picky eater and she’d make me peanut butter and sugar sandwiches, which I think I kept eating through middle school! 

One of my best memories was when she stayed with me a week and we made curtains for my whole house. We went all over town sourcing fabric and supplies and then she’d get down on the floor with me and pin the drapes - I think this was in about 2004... so I think she was about 80 years old then. 

Mom and I took Gran Gran to Galveston for a girls weekend and we made her get in the hot tub—she was really not sure about that, but once she was in she just giggled like a school girl! 

Your mother was a wonderful person. It was a pleasure to know her since I was in the 5th grade, I am now 72. I know each member of the family will miss her. My prayers are with each of you.
