With great love and deep sadness, we announce that Inmaculada (Ada) Mejia has returned to the loving embrace of her Savior, Jesus Christ, trusting fully in His Divine Mercy. Her life was a shining example of unwavering faith, resilient hope, and selfless love.
Born to Jose Manuel Insignares and Renetta Parias Insignares in Colombia, both of whom preceded her in death, Ada grew up surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her beloved siblings: Nelson Eduardo Insignares Parias, Maria Eugenia Insignares Parias, and Margarita Insignares, and is now reunited in heaven with her brother and sister, Francisco and Renetta.
In 1970, Ada courageously came to the United States with her young daughter, Angie, and then-husband, Efrain Mejia, bringing with her an insatiable thirst for learning—not just the English language, but everything the world had to offer. Ada spent much of her life advancing her education as a devoted reader and writer, always enrolling in higher-level English courses and pursuing knowledge with a tireless passion.
Ada’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Angie Riquelmy-Brown (husband Gene Brown) and Jennifer Givens (husband Casey Givens), a cherished grandmother to eleven grandchildren, and a great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to her life.
In 2005, Ada was diagnosed with cancer. She found a deep and transformative connection with Christ’s suffering throughout her long and courageous struggle. Rather than surrender to despair, Ada embraced her suffering, offering it up for the salvation of her soul and the souls of the whole world. From a young age, she had longed to be a martyr for Jesus, and through her illness, she lived that calling with quiet heroism.
Her life was beautifully anchored in trust in Jesus, perfectly captured in the words she loved so dearly:
"The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is — trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive." — Diary, 1578
"O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You." — (Diary, 186–187)
Though we mourn her loss, we rejoice knowing that Ada is now resting in the everlasting mercy of Jesus, the one she trusted with all her heart. She leaves a legacy of deep faith, fierce love, and unquenchable hope.
"Jesus, I Trust in You!"
