He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. A viewing and visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the worship center of Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Drive, Houston, Texas 77024. The funeral begins at 11 a.m., Pastor Duane Brooks, officiating. A short reception will follow.
Burial follows at 2 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery located on Veteran’s Memorial Drive, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
Carl was born July 30, 1933 in Kinder, Louisiana, as the only child of Ira Carl, Sr., and Maggie (Gilley) Dorman. After high school, he entered the United States Air Force as a Russian Language Interpreter during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1957. He graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with a B.S. in physics.
On December 15, 1961, Carl married his first and only love, Lois Jeanne Dunlap, and had 4 children. He loved cake decorating, music, piano playing, spending time with his family and worshipping the One True God.
Carl worked as a Systems Analyst for Transco Energy, Co. for 21 years, as a software engineer for Lockheed Martin/NASA, and as a data security analyst for Candle Corporation. He was a member of the Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the American Legion, and in recent years, was a member of the reunion group of the 6921st Radio Squadron, Mobile.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois (Dunlap) Dorman of Houston, Texas; his son Ira Carl Dorman, III, wife, Barbara, and their daughter, Alyssa, of Katy, Texas; his son, Eric Keith Dorman of Houston, Texas; his daughter Mollie Elizabeth Cherry, husband, Mark, and 3 sons, Jacob, Thaddeus and Matthias, of Cedar Park, Texas; and his daughter, Amy Suzanne Francis and her husband, Randy, of Beijing, China. He is also survived by a multitude of friends and family who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Maggie in 1977 and 1981, respectively.
