Evelyn Irene “Buffy” Buffaloe, born December 16, 1924 in Dallas, Texas passed away October 18, 2010. She is survived by daughter, Renie Kristynik and son in law, Larry; daughter, Denie Lunsmann, and son in law, Ken; grandchildren: Kurt Kristynik and wife Marti of Houston, Kyle Kristynik and wife, Tiffany of Meridianville, Alabama, Cole Kristynik and wife, Whitney, Leslie and Lyndsay Lunsmann, all of Houston; great grandchildren, ColeMc and Chance Kristynik; brother, Glenn Dale “Bubba” Claybourn, Jr. of Kemah, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Glenn; and her parents, Glenn Dale and Clara Claybourn, and beloved sisters-in-law, Genie Buffaloe and Gladys Claybourn.
Irene graduated from Palacios High School in 1942, fell in love with Glenn when he returned to Palacios “in uniform” and they were married on December 21, 1945. Irene and Glenn moved to Houston in 1962, where they both lived for the rest of their lives. Irene worked for many years for Houston Independent School District in the district office, then later for Heights Savings and Loan. But throughout her employment, she also helped Glenn to build their family floor covering business, which they worked tirelessly to build and is continuing into its third generation.
In her spare time, Irene loved working in the yard and shopping. But her favorite pastime was her weekly poker game with her dear friends that took place every Tuesday for 28 years! “Buffy” as she was known by her grandchildren and many friends and neighbors, loved attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s athletic events and activities.
Honorary Pallbearers are the “Poker Ladies:” Peggy Curry, Sandy Descant, Joanie Lane, Patsy McDonald, Jo Siefkes; dear friends, Ellen Hooks and Bobbie Bennett, and companion, caregiver, chauffeur and friend, Terry Perez. Pallbearers are Wayne Hooks, Keith Kristynik, Ronnie Kristynik, Steve Patchett, Victor “Toby” Samuels and Kenny Singletary.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 3:00 PM in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, TX 77079.
