Today we gather here with heavy hearts to honor and remember a truly remarkable woman; my mom. My mom was unique to me in every way. She faced life’s challenges with courage and grace. Growing up life was hard for her. She was a single child without a brother or sister. She practically raised, fed and defended herself at a young age. She had her first kid at age 15 and 4 more thereafter. Being a young single parent back then was not an easy life to be had. She basically raised 5 kids with very little help and never accepted any government assistance. She worked multiple jobs and at times 12 hour shifts just to make ends meet. In the midst of all of this she was self-motivated to obtain a GED at age 40 then later received an LVN certification. I would like to say that she did all of this with a smile and a Cherry Coke, but that would be the farthest from the truth. You see my mother was strong in a way that she did not show or share her pains and suffering instead she stayed within her faith. Her pillar was Jesus Christ where she stead fasted close to his bosom. She would always say “And this too will pass.”
She was not just our mother our confidant, our teacher, the one we could count on and our best friend. Again she was our mother. Though we feel a profound loss today Her spirit lives on in the love she gave us and the lives she touched throughout her journey in this world. So as I say goodbye I will remember your legacy of kindness and strength, I thank you for everything you have done for me and I want you to rest in peace knowing you are deeply loved.
Our Mom will be forever missed. Goodbye Mom Until we meet again!
The ceremony for Ms. Irene A. Lavender will be held at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 W. Montgomery Houston, Texas at 2:00 pm on September 11, 2026.
