Isilda Smith of Houston, TX passed away on Sunday, May 5th at the age of 92. She was born on May 6, 1931 in St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica to Marie Smith and Joseph Smith where she grew up with 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
She attended White Hill Malcolm Square PA primary school located in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica and later moved to East Orange, New Jersey in the United States in 1962.
Upon arrival to the United States, she worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Vincent nursing home in New Jersey, and then in January 1972 she begin working as a surgical tech at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. She later retired from St. Joseph’s in April 1993.
She was actively involved in the Pentecostal Church of Bridgeport, Connecticut and then later joined Apostolic Faith Church when she relocated to Houston, TX in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her son Daniel Noel Graham, siblings Beryl Brown, Cebert Smith, Agatha Smith, Winston Smith, Astley Smith, Ronald Smith, and her nephews Roy Brown, Osmond Brown, and Robert Smith
She is survived by her sons, Donald Jones and Barrington Roberts, her grandchildren, Sheryl [Paul] Green, Antoinette Franklin, Janet [Barry] Dukes, Mildred Allen, Cynthia Graham, Daniel Graham, and Christina Graham, her great-grandchildren Blythe Franklin, Aubrey Green, Bella Dukes, Barry Dukes III, Calvin Noel-Graham, Razzaq Graham, Rayzon Graham, R’Mynee Graham, Suhaila Graham, Jahsin Graham, Anisa Smith, Cynia Smith, her brother, Radcliffe Smith, her nieces and nephews, Jasmine Allen, Eugent Brown, Evelyn Everard, Joanna Holly, Decordeva Brown, Edel Brown, Marlene Smith, Vernon Smith, Donald Smith, Jennifer Szarota, Yvonne Porter, Diane Smith, Rochelle Smith, Joseph Smith, Paula Smith, Stacy Smith, Mitchell Smith, Garcia Smith, Sharon (Precious) Binns, Delroy Smith, Claire Smith, Devon Smith, Richard Smith, and a host of other family members and friends.
Isilda was a devout Christian woman who loved to laugh, cook, and spend time with her family and those she loved.
The family would like to thank HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation with the family Friday May 24th at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery (12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077) beginning at 5:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be held at Apostolic Faith Church (8537 W. Bellfort Ave, Houston, TX 77071) on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 at 10:00 AM followed by committal at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery (12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077) at 2:00PM.
