

Jerry grew up in Houston but graduated from Roaring Springs High school. After Jerry graduated from Roaring Springs High School in 1954. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After his tour of duty, Jerry attended and received an engineering degree in 1965 from Texas A&M at College Station. Realizing the importance of education, he earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh while working for Westinghouse.
Jerry was employed by Diebold; this job was the first step in a lengthy, distinguished, and successful career in the banking equipment business in which he was still a participant at the time of his death.
Jerry was an entrepreneur; he established and ran Dual Equipment and in 1980 Lane Bank Equipment. He was recognized for outstanding service to Diebold and as a member of the Century Club by Texas A&M. Jerry was the past president of, and received a 20-year award from NIBESA, now known as FSPA.
In 1988, Jerry married Kathryn Spitler Wheeler in Houston; he and she were partners in marriage, business, interests, and life.
Jerry was a Renaissance man, with a myriad of interests; he was an avid hunter, a shooting enthusiast, a talented artists – whether it was painting or cooking or decorating – an accomplished gardener, a koi collector, and a true innovateur.
This complex, multi-talented, self-made man with a keen sense of humor and amazing intelligence understood people and the importance of true friendship, and that is what made him truly special.
Jerry is survived by his wife Kathryn of the home; his step-daughter Kevin Wheeler (Antonio Vintro) of Washington, D.C.; his daughter Heather Vaughan; his sister Lou (Don) Wittler of Matador, Texas; his granddaughter Gabriella Vintro of Washington, D.C.; his nephews Timothy Cooper of Matador, Texas, and Thomas Cooper of Roaring Springs, Texas; and numerous cousins.
A Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date.
