

Jack spent his early years in Caspiana, Louisiana, a rural community outside of Shreveport. He attended C.E. Byrd H.S. in Shreveport and was a member of the National Honor Society and Captain in the ROTC program.
He attended Texas A&M University and proudly served in the Corp of Cadets. He was a member of the renowned Texas A&M Fish Drill Team in '51 and a Ross Volunteer in '54. Jack received his Bachelor of Science – Petroleum Engineering degree in 1955. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army Reserve. First Lieutenant (Armor - USAR) Jack Guy Courtney, received his honorable discharge in 1963.
As a Petroleum Engineer, Jack's career spanned 39 years including employment with BBM Drilling, A.W. Thompson, Mobil Oil Corp. and Conoco. His roles included engineering, planning, supervision and management of drilling operations on both land and sea.
As part of Conoco's International operations, Jack and was assigned to projects in Dubai, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Scotland, Norway and Gabon W. Africa.
Jack retired in 1994 after 21 years with Conoco.
Jack was a member and supporter of the Texas A&M Association of Former Students. He and his wife, Clydetta, enjoyed seeing additional parts of the World with the Traveling Aggies organization. Both were devout Christians and members of First Baptist Church of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack Hardy Courtney and Mary Evelle Guy Courtney.
He is survived by his wife, Clydetta Long Courtney, his brother, Donald Courtney, his daughter Elaine Courtney, sons Jack Guy Courtney Jr., David Courtney and Bruce Courtney, grandchildren Lauren Haist, Alex Courtney, Katie Courtney and Kendall Courtney, and his great grandchildren Bradley Haist, Hunter Haist, Connor Haist and Luke Haist.
A private memorial service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
