Jack attended Ogallala public schools and enrolled at Nebraska Weslayan University in Lincoln in the fall of 1952. He pledged Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and set his sights on graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
The fall of his senior year at Weslayan Jack attended an “hour dance” at the Phi Mu sorority house and met a freshman member who hailed from Lincoln. Her name was Jacqueline Amos and he said “my world changed after that”. Jack graduated and took a job at Ideal Cement in Superior, Nebraska as a chemist and they married, after Jacki graduated, on June 28, 1959 in Lincoln before making their home in Superior for many years. Jacki taught briefly for the Superior School system before welcoming first child Jill in 1960, followed by Jerald and James. They transferred briefly to Wilmington, North Carolina in 1963, before coming back to Superior. Jacki went back to teaching in 1973 and retired from the school system in 1993. Both were always involved in the community. For a number of years Jack served as a trustee for the Superior Library Foundation, raising funds to improve the local Carnegie Library. Jack retired from a career with Ideal Cement in early 1988. One of the projects he is known for in Superior was the detailed history of the cement plant that he wrote and published in 1991.
After retirement Jack and Jacki relocated to Montgomery, Texas to be closer to family located in Houston. With a house on the lake and a boat he was able to get back to one of his loves- fishing! He and Jacki spent many years traveling both by barge and car across the country, enjoying exploring new places together. Jack was a Civil War buff and spent time exploring battles sites and researching Union soldier George Nispel. He continued being an example to others by actively participating in their community by serving on the Walden Section 5 board for many years.
Jack is preceded in death by Jacki, his beloved wife of 65 years, his mother and father, and his older sister Caroline Virginia who died before he turned two years old. He is survived by daughter Jill Boullion (Patrick) who lives in Houston, son Jerry (Kelly) from Seattle, WA; and son James (LeAnn) who lives in Montgomery, TX. Jack was dearly loved by three grandsons Todd Nispel, Seattle WA, JT Nispel (Ariel) of Keenesburg, CO, and Alex (Jasmine) Nispel of San Diego, CA and many other family members and friends. He was known for being a gracious and welcoming host who loved telling a good story over a great meal and a glass of wine. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
