Jacob Eng

October 12, 2008November 1, 2020

Jacob Eng, 12, died Sunday, November 1, 2020, while at home. Jacob was born on October 12, 2008, in China. He was adopted and moved to the United States at the age of 4 and attended school from kindergarten to 4th grade in Mount Laurel, NJ. Jacob and his family moved to Cypress, TX in 2019, where Jacob attended 5th and 6th grade in the Cy-Fair School District.

Jacob was learning to play the cello and was also developing his bilingual language skills (English and Chinese). He was an avid reader and could often be found with a book in his hands. Jacob was obsessed with the Harry Potter series and also enjoyed reading classics like The Chronicles of Prydain and To Kill A Mockingbird. When he wasn’t reading, Jacob spent much of his time creating complex Lego constructions. He enjoyed learning about and using tools. Jacob has assembled various woodworking projects, and he regularly helped out with repairing the family’s cars. Jacob enjoyed cooking (and also eating!) and enthusiastically assisted with holiday meal preparations. His specialty was deviled eggs and chocolate pudding (from scratch). This past February, Jacob met the love of his life when his dog, Troi, joined the family. He was a very devoted caretaker of Troi and made sure that she was fed, exercised and bathed. Jacob and Troi would spend much time playing in the backyard.

Jacob is survived by his parents, James Eng and Sandra Yu. He also leaves his paternal grandparents, Yim B. Eng and Julie C. Eng as well as his maternal grandmother, Sharon Yu. Jacob was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eric Yu. Jacob is also survived by his uncles and aunts, Joseph and Pamela Eng, David Eng and Trinh Duong, Nancy Eng, Shirley Yu, and Warren and Aimee Yu. Jacob leaves behind his cousins, Jeremy Eng, Hannah Eng, Darin Eng, Kaiya Nam, Zaden Nam, Avery Yu and Emma Yu.

I am truly heartbroken for your family. Jacob was such a joy to know and take care of and I looked forward to taking care of him every time he came to clinic. He was sweet, funny, smart, inquisitive, and had such a contagious smile and laugh. I will miss seeing his smiling face, hearing his funny jokes, his curious mind, and swapping dog stories. My continued thoughts and prayers are with each of you. He will always be missed, and never forgotten 💙

Jimmy and Sandra-
The loss of a child is just so devastating.
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Jacob. I never met him but his smile in all the photos reveal the perfect life he lived, having you as parents and you both having him as your son.
My thoughts and prayers are with you both and your families.

Dear James & Sandra,

Mike and I fondly remember writing a letter on your behalf to the adoption agency sharing why we thought you would be good candidates to become parents. We’re sure that Jacob would be in full agreement with us. He was blessed to have you as his parents and you were blessed to have him as your child. It was, as they say, a match made in heaven.

Jacob will be in my heart always. I will always remember his kindness and positive attitude at every office visit! He was always a bright spot in my day. The conversations about politics and Harry Potter and even our generation without internet. There are no words that can take away your pain but I hope you know that he left lasting memories. I will forever be grateful for having known him!

Dear James and Sandra,
Jacob always knew how to put a smile on my face. His positive energy always made me feel better. From playing in the snow during winter to jumping on our trampoline, we made so many memories and I’m lucky to be his neighbor. I am very sorry for your loss and our prayers are with you.
