

James was born on December 20, 1925 in Rochelle, Texas and was a long time resident of Houston, Texas where he also met his wife, Gladys Allen. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army Airforce and served during WWII in various locations, including the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Upon the war ending, he went to the University of Houston where he graduated with an Accounting degree and worked for Quintana Petroleum for 35 years.
James enjoyed coaching baseball, watching sports, as well as spending time with his grandchildren in later life. He also loved gardening and growing all types of vegetables and flowers, as well as spending time in the country where he and his wife had a home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Wells Allen and Mary Suzanne Elizabeth Williamson, as well as his wife of almost 70 years, Gladys Allen who passed in February of 2023. Being the tenth of twelve children, he leaves behind one sister, Barbara Allen Fannin, who resides in Austin, Texas. He also leaves behind his children Diane Allen of Cypress TX; David Allen and daughter-in-law Lynnell Allen of Minneapolis, MN; and Dina Pyron and son-in-law Ken Pyron of Houston, TX. In addition, he leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Marissa Allen of Minneapolis, MN; Bryce Allen of Minneapolis, MN; Brenden Allen of Minneapolis, MN; and Julianne Pyron of Southampton, England.
James was a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
The Allen family would like to give a special thanks to his caretaker Cristina Chavez, as well as Avanti at Towne Lake who cared for him for the past 4 years, and especially in the last few weeks of his long life.
A visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. January 25, 2025 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77079. Following visitation, a funeral service will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with graveside to follow.
