At 6:25 pm on September 29, 1944, it was announced that a male child was given to Elmore Breaux and Menia Meloncon Breaux at Houston Negro Hospital in Houston, Texas. Eighty-and one-half years later that same male was given his angel wings at 10:25 pm on April 25, 2025, at Houston Hospice. Chronologically he was the fifth child in birth order with three siblings born after him to his parents. His parents called him James Wendell Breaux.
James, also known as Wendell, led a simple life, always allotting time to help others and socialize while attending to the task at hand. He was drafted and served in the US Army on assignment in Germany. He was a staple in all family member households. This was the essence of his life “Being Present and Helping People”. He was a “People Person” and he obtained his skills orientation at Fidelity Elementary and Senior High Schools where he either got an introduction or became proficient in various fields such as art, music, woodshop, electrical shop, poetry writing, meteorology, and more. He was a self-taught scholar in many things and worked mostly for himself; although he worked at Arco chemical Plant, he also was an electrician for Galena Park School District as well as for Channel Two News.
Most people reading this can probably admit that Wendell has helped them in some shape, form or fashion through wiring their house, building a house or furniture, painting and refurbishing furniture, repairing electronics, and repairing air conditioners. For leisure fun he painted, fished, wrote poetry and played the guitar. BUT most importantly, Wendell knew the Lord!
He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and enjoyed reading books and watching movies. He also enjoyed talk shows on spiritual aspects in life. He knew the Lord early and was confirmed in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Fidelity.
James was preceded in death by his parents; Elmore & Menia Breaux, his sister, Elnora, passing at the age of nine months in 1943, and his brother, Carlvin, passing in the year of 2013 at the age of 71.
James leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Mary Ellen Leece; two brothers: Elmore Patrick Breaux aka Tboy, and Joseph Kenneth Lee Breaux (Glenda); three sisters: Marilyn Robicheaux, Debra Robicheaux (Leo); Karen Sium (Tzehaie aka Ted); and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James is still giving even though he is no longer here; this poem was found in his bedroom:
“ The Last Train Ride"
The Train of My Life Doesn't Back Track
It Only Goes Forward for What's in Life Ahead of Me
It's No Longer a Choice by Me, But the Choice of My Conductor Who Steers It
My Conductor Takes All That Accepts His Rate
For It's The Last Train That You Will Ride to Its Destination
The price is The Belief in My Conductor and The Trust in Him
For He is The Way!
Written by James Wendell Breaux
