

James Cherian was born in Koratty, Kerala on April 10, 1947 to E.P. and Annamma Cherian. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at St. Dominic College in Kanjirapally, Kerala and served in the Indian Air Force.
On January 2, 1975, he married the love of his life, Aleykutty. He then emigrated from India to Rochester, New York, before settling in Sugar Land, Texas. They were blessed with two children, Sheryl and Justin, and they were happily married for 49 and a half years.
He completed additional certifications and became a licensed respiratory therapist in 1989 and started working at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he diligently worked for 26 years. He trained and mentored many colleagues and was loved by everyone for his kindness, good looks, charm, wit, and clever sense of humor.
James was the most loving person; a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, colleague, and friend. His love, kindness, and smile brought joy and happiness to everyone who touched his life. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his three precious grandchildren, Dominic, Joshua, and Kate, who were his pride and joy. His love and dedication to them was unwavering and will forever guide them through life’s journeys.
James spent a lot of his time serving his community. He was a dedicated member of India Catholics of Houston, parishioner of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and also served on the HOA Board of his neighborhood for many years. He strived to always do his best and did everything with excellence.
James enjoyed watching sports, especially the Houston Rockets, and he most enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved gardening and took great happiness in sharing the fruits and vegetables of his garden with everyone who visited his home, especially his orange and grapefruit trees.
James was called home to heaven on June 9, 2024. He is survived by his wife Aleykutty, his daughter Sheryl and her husband Savio, his son Justin, his siblings Mariamma, Jose, Thommachen, Babu, Mathachan, Saliamma and Shajiamma, and his grandchildren Dominic, Joshua, and Kate. He was predeceased by his parents E.P. and Annamma Cherian and his brother Joemy.
He will be remembered for the great love, generosity and affection he shared with his friends and family. He will live in our hearts and memories forever, bringing us comfort in the days to come.
