James Clay Cravens

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Kelli Cravens, his three children Campbell, Kirby, and Farise, his parents, James “Chico” and Kay Cravens, his brother and sister-in-law Will and Janet Cravens, along with their children Mary and James, and Stephen along with several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

Clay attended The Kinkaid School (Class of 1981) followed by the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in English. He was the Gulf Coast Regional Manager of Waco Filters and founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Chemflo Process Filtration, LLC. Prior to his founding of Chemflo, he was Senior Vice President of Cravens, Dargan, and Company, a Houston based insurance company. Clay was a strong supporter of The Kinkaid School, volunteer basketball coach for leagues at Chapelwood United Methodist Church and St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, and Sunday school teacher at Chapelwood United Methodist Church.

He was intellectually curious, well read, and a lover of the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed astronomy, philosophy, hunting, fishing, hiking, jogging, camping, tennis, and traveling around the world. He had a robust sense of humor that he enjoyed sharing with both friends and family. Clay was always there to help his many close friends, and they truly loved him. However, most of all he was a deeply loving father of his three wonderful children spending countless hours with them reading, coaching, sharing, laughing and mentoring.

Clay was a devoted husband and grateful every day for his beautiful wife and love of his life, Kelli. Clay made a positive difference in the lives of all the many people he touched and abundantly gave of himself to others. He was a Christian man who left this world a much better place than he found it. He will be truly missed by all.

The memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 31st of August, in the sanctuary of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where Dr. Jim Jackson, Senior Pastor, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent fellowship hall.

Prior to Friday’s service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
