

James Lee was born on Friday, July 30, 1920, to Belle Ogden Cruse and Clifton Bean Cruse in Woodville, Tyler County, Texas. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas by Pastor Walter Huber. James Lee passed from his earthly life with grace and dignity into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior at 9:06 A.M., Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years,Thelma Berryhill Cruse, his oldest daughter, Barbara Lee, and three siblings. James Lee is survived by his daughters, Geraldine Shofner and husband, Jeff; Sue Sauberli and husband, Dean; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families.
James Lee had a passion for life, an inner joy which he did not hesitate to share with family, friends and strangers. He was a compassionate and forgiving man and never failed to help those who needed help. He delighted in sharing his life experiences with everyone he knew or met. He had a deep and abiding love for his wife, Thelma, who was always first in his life. He was a devoted and proud father to his “three girls”. James Lee and Thelma loved to travel and visit with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with his grandchildren. He loved nothing better than a game of “42” and straight dominoes which he took very seriously.
James Lee will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed.
