

James was born on May 8, 1925 in Manhattan, New York to the late John and Delia Davitt. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served in World War II as a coxswain with the Seabees 78th Battalion. He retired from the US Postal Service in Newark, NJ and relocated to Kingwood/Humble, Texas.
James is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Davitt who passed away in June 2016, his parents John and Delia Davitt, brothers John Davitt, Anthony Davitt, Francis Davitt and his son Michael Davitt.
James is survived by son Brian Davitt and wife Kristen, daughter-in-law Maureen Davitt, sisters Kathleen Davitt and Marian Dezervos, grandchildren, Erin Yedinak and husband Nicholas, Jason Davitt and wife Deborah, Kathleen Davitt, Kimberly Davitt, Nancy Davitt, Colleen Zavitsky and husband Brian. James also had six great grandchildren; Elizabeth Davitt, Caitlin and Emma Davies, Craige Lehman, Kaden Davitt and Michael Zavitsky; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 1 pm at the American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. Burial will follow at 2 pm with military honors in Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respect at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 am to 1 pm
