

James W. (“Wiley”) Douglass, Jr., 81, of Houston, Texas passed away on December 24, 2018. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to James W. Douglass, Sr. and Mary C. Barber Douglass on August 29, 1937. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Wood Douglass of Houston, Texas, his son, Wayne Douglass and wife, Laura, of Katy, Texas, his son, Mark Douglass and wife, Karen, of Havre, Montana, and his daughter, Debra Lynn Hunter and husband, Max, of Houston, Texas, grandchildren, Shelby Johnson, and husband, Nick, of San Antonio, Texas, Jace Douglass of Katy, Texas, Darby Hunter and Brenna Hunter of Houston, Texas, and one great grandchild, Hensley Johnson of San Antonio.
A memorial service will be held at Foundry United Methodist Church at 8350 Jones Rd., Houston, Texas 77065 at 11:00 am on Monday, December 31, 2018 with Rev. Godfrey Hubert officiating.
Wiley served as Airborne in the U.S. Army for four years primarily in Germany where he also played football. After his service in the army, he joined the police force in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to the Rio Grande Valley to serve as an officer with the U.S. Border Patrol. He and his family moved to Houston in 1967 and, after attending the Academy, became an officer with Houston Police Department. He retired in 1988 with 21 years of service to HPD after earning the rank of Sergeant. He then worked several years with Hermann Hospital and Alief ISD.
Wiley had many interests and hobbies, but was most passionate about building and working with model trains and railroads, coaching softball and time with his family. He and his wife, Jean, have been longtime members of Foundry UMC in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
