James was born in Houston on January 25, 1941 to parents Fletcher and Jewel Alexander. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1960. He met Eva Carter at his grandparents' house where his parents were playing dominoes, and from that we all came. They were married on October 26, 1968. James worked for Houston Lighting and Power (now NRG) for over 35 years. He had a passion for spoiling his grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eva Henderson; his parents, Fletcher and Jewel Henderson; and his older brother, Wayne. He is survived by his younger brother, Paul; sons, Joel and Rick; and grandchildren, Nathan, Elyssa, and Austin.
A visitation for James will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 10:30 AM, with a graveside service to follow at 12:00 PM in Brookside Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joel Henderson, Rick Henderson, Nathan Henderson, Michael Labounty, Mace Bostic, and John Bradley; with Elyssa Hart and Paul Henderson serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the caretakers at the Williamsburg House in Hallettsville, Texas and the Autumn Springs Tranquility House in Houston, with special thanks to Shellie, Alana, and Tonia.
