

James Douglas Hooks, age 88, passed away on June 13, 2026. He resided in Tomball, Texas. Born on May 15, 1938, in Trinity, Texas, James lived a life marked by steady devotion—to his country, his work, and the people he loved most.
James graduated from John H. Reagan High School, where he earned his high school diploma. He went on to honorably serve in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected a deep sense of duty and respect for something larger than himself.
Following his military service, James built an upstanding career with the U.S. Postal Service, dedicating 31 years to work defined by reliability, perseverance, and pride in doing things the right way. His years of service stood as a testament to a life lived with purpose and consistency.
Outside of work, James found genuine enjoyment in the things that sparked his interest and kept his spirit engaged. He held a lifelong passion for cars and sports, and he was never far from a conversation about a great game or a car he admired. A devoted Houston Astros fan, he rarely missed the opportunity to cheer them on, sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge in ways that brought joy to those around him.
Above all else, James deeply loved his family. He was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a great-grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love, guidance, and unwavering support shaped a legacy of closeness and care that will be remembered with gratitude.
James is survived by his son, Stephen Hooks; grandchildren, Richard Hooks, Krystle Hooks, Stephanie Hooks, and Desarae Hooks; and siblings, Terry Collins and Patricia Collins. He was preceded in death by his sibling, Bill Maurice Hooks; and his parents, William Tolton Hooks and Gladys Marie Sims.
James will be remembered for the steady strength of his presence, the warmth of his devotion, and the lasting memories he created through a life of service and love.
