Groucho was born and raised in Houston and a member of Our Mother Mercy Catholic Church. He was one of four children born to the late Raynard and Angelina Landry and was the loving husband of Mary Lee (Guillory) Landry for over 64 years. Groucho will forever be remembered by his devoted brother John “JC” (Deloris) and loving sister Norma Potier. Children, Michael Landry, Rhonda Hagerich (Michael), Sharon “Rags” Arceneaux, (Charles) Karen “Ponnie” Murray, Kenny “Boy Baby” Landry and John Landry (Tracy), ten grand-children, seven great children and one great-great grandchild, numerous nephews and nieces, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
Groucho loved listening to blues music, training hunting beagles, fishing, laughing, having fun with friends, being with his family and of course playing spades.
He served his country between World War II and the Korean Conflict. He then continued his service working in various federal jobs and retired from the V.A. Hospital as an air condition operator with 30 plus years of service. For many years, Groucho trained beagles and had one of the largest beagle kennels in the State of Texas and later on in life perfected his love of fishing with his brother “JC” and his fishing buddy “Bo”.
Groucho will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He never was a stranger to anyone and loved to make you laugh.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, Irma, and son-in-law, Willie E. Murray. Groucho leaves behind his wife, children, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, to celebrate and remember his life.
