James Angier Martin, Jr., 67, was born on December 30, 1950 and passed away September 6, 2018 in Houston, Texas. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Jim was a 1968 graduate of Sam Houston High School and served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 - 1971, stationed at Pearl Harbor. He also lived in Denver, Colorado for a time, but Texas was where he called home. Jim worked as a database manager until his retirement after nearly 38 years from AT&T. He was an active member of the Spring Chapter of AARP and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association for many years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, with his best buddy Mike Shoppe, and loved travelling to visit family around the country with his adoring wife, Gloria. He also loved going on cruises, watching NASCAR, and football (didn’t matter who was playing). Jim had a quick wit and loved to laugh.
Jim is survived by his wife , Gloria H. Martin of Spring, Texas ; three brothers Carl Riley(Carla) of Channelview , Texas ; Lonnie Riley ( Rhondalynn) of the Houston area; and Jerry Riley also of the Houston area; two daughters Rachel Thurman (Damon) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lisa Wallace ( Richard) of Spring , Texas; four grandchildren , Justin K. Knight ( Heather) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Virgil Brandon Knight ( Brittney) of Plano, Texas , Gwydion Rose ( Lydia) of Orlando , Florida , and Gaia Rose( Hunter) also of Orlando , Florida; two great-grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles , nieces, and nephews ; his adored kitties , Charlie and BitBit also miss Jim terribly.
The visitation will be held in his honor from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 inside the chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 with a procession to follow to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, at 2:15 p.m. where he will be laid to rest with honors.
